Unsettled feelings.
Dear Dad,
We have spent the past couple of weekends cleaning out your house so that we can sell it this Spring. We have made a lot of progress, but still have a lot left to do.
I can't get over the feeling that I'm doing something wrong while I'm there. Going through your things. Separating your personal belongings into different piles: keep for myself, donate, for Ken, trash.
Nothing in your house is where you left it. We have touched everything.
This past Sunday I found a box in your attic that was full of CD-Rom/DVDs that you had Jeanne convert from VHS. For the majority of the videos, you are behind the video camera with the exception of a few. There's one that is from a night Southern Comfort played at The Roost. I get this overwhelming sense of pride watching you on stage, singing, playing your bass. Completely and totally in your element.
Another video was of us on the beach when I was 5 or 6. I remember swimming with you in the lake a lot as a kid. Watching the video brought me right back to that place. Where you would swim towards me under water and I would "pull" you up by your hair. I have watched this video countless times in the past 6 days. You are smiling, laughing. Totally carefree. The way that I remember you. And yes, of course you were in a speedo. LOL
Watching these videos make me so happy. They make me so sad. They make me long for another time. When things were simple. When you were here.
I miss you, Dad. So very very much.
